On July 1st, the office of President of the Rotary Club of Towcester was passed from John Norton to Allan Bell. President Allan thanked John Norton for his services over the past year. Allan reminded us that next year is the 30th anniversary of the club’s founding.
The aim of the new president is to have fewer service projects but to achieve more from those we deem to be our priorities. We should do our best to develop our longstanding fundraising activities – Silverstone, May Day Fayre and periodic street collections. He is also keen to hold more social events to give the members more enjoyment and to include Rotary wives and Inner Wheel members. He intends to publicise these to other clubs by encouraging more scatter visits. He complimented the committee chairmen on the programs they had set out at Club Assembly.
President Allan is aware that recruitment is vital to maintain the viability of the club. To this end he proposed a new concept, Friends of Rotary, and to hold an ‘Information and Recruitment’ evening. The new President will continue initiatives with the local community, with increasing emphasis on youth.
He said that the theme for his year will be “Have fun working on our Rotary plans”
At the same event, Frank Kelly was installed as President Elect for 2010/11. Steve Howe was presented with the Viscount Motors trophy as Rotarian of the Year, and to crown his evening he was also given the Paul Harris award.
