The Rotary Club of Towcester is delighted to announce that one of its Rotakids Schools – Paulerspury CE Primary school has raised money for DISC. As Rotakids, the students must come up with 2 projects as fund raising ideas and decide where they would like the money to go. It was their wish to raise some funds for local disabled children and so DISC was the obvious beneficiary and the Rotakids were delighted to help.
To raise the funds, the 2017 Rotakids group held a cake and cookie sale at their school, which consisted of items for sale made by the students themselves as well as drinks donated by Waitrose for the occasion.
DISC stands for Disability Inclusive Sports Club, a voluntary group, run by parents and carers of people with disabilities for the enjoyment and benefit of its members. DISC welcomes all children and adults with a disability or special need, together with their families and carers. They meet up at the Towcester Centre for Leisure on Sunday afternoons, either as a combined 2 hour sports/swim session or a 1 hour swim /flume/waves session on other weeks. The sessions are at a beginner’s level but cater for all age groups and are held in the Sports Hall and Dance studio. A variety of professional coaches are hired to run the sports from 3 pm to 4 pm – and in recent times, sports have included: Trampolining, Archery Judo, Dodgeball, Circus skills, Zumba, Short mat bowling, Tennis, Basketball skills, Seated volleyball, Have-a go athletics, Badminton, Cricket, Indoor Golf, Table-tennis, Boccia, Curling and several times a year, we book a bouncy castle which is enjoyed by all ages.
