On Sunday 27th January a number of Primary School students from Towcester and the surrounding area gathered in the Town Hall for a two part music competition judged by Alistair Thom, adjudicator from the Northamptonshire County Music Trust. The first sets of competitors were solo musicians or singers and the second sets of competitors were singers and musicians competing in ensembles.
Standards were high and the competition close fought. The solo winner was Holy-Alice Morton.
The winning ensemble was from Nicholas Hawksmore Academy. The ensemble was in the form of a string quintet. Those taking part were Oliver Beck, Frances Ramos (both on cello), Penelope Tollervey, Tabitha Jayasuriya and Rebecca Would.
Both the solo winner and the ensemble were highly praised by the adjudicator. The winners will go forward to the District competition on the 24th February in St. Ives, Huntingdon, where they may find themselves competing against pupils from the 4 counties covered by The Rotary District of which the local Towcester Rotary Club is part.
