During a recent trip to Victoria, Australia in January 2016, my wife Jacqui and I were able to visit and exchange Rotary Banners with the Presidents of three local Rotary Clubs.
Our first visit was to Brighton Rotary Club where we met President Barry Hickman. We were also able to witness the induction of their first lady member, Ms. Catie Kirke and another new member Colin Stimpson, both former speakers at the club. We were also presented to last year’s District Governor Murray Verso and Assistant District Governor Adrian Nelson. David Smyth gave a very interesting talk on The First Fleet Voyage of the Lady Penrhyn and his link with his ancestor Arthur Bowes Smyth (1750-1790), surgeon on the Lady Penrhyn on her voyage to Australia.
Our next visit was to Brighton Beach Rotary Club where we were made very welcome and met President Richard Noble and many other members. We exchanged a Towcester Rotary banner for their equivalent of a black T shirt with the club logo.
Our third visit was to Malawa Oxley Rotary Club in Wangaratta where we met President Melissa and most of her members. Interestingly they meet at a local community centre for their Business Meetings then visit a local restaurant for their meal. President Melissa also expressed an interest in the possibility of joining Towcester Rotary Club in an International project if one is forthcoming.
All the members from all the clubs sent their greetings and an invitation to visit, if any of our members are in their area on a club night.
