For several years the Rotary Club of Towcester has given groups of Young Carers the opportunity to have a break from their support duties.
Following the successful day last year a group was again taken for a day out to Pitsford Reservoir with the help of Northamptonshire Sailability. The weather was unsettled with showers but did not spoil the fun.
A friendly welcome greeted everyone and after a short briefing, life jackets were issued and boats were soon on the water. The water conditions were ‘interesting’ with choppy water and a few gusts of wind.
Sailability put on a splendid BBQ lunch rounded off with scones, cream and strawberries.
After lunch it was back to the water and a final challenge to build and sail a raft. Two teams set about building the most stable raft for a race. The sailing lasted about a minute ! With more time spent retrieving the wreckage. Although the wettest it was also the most fun part of the day and the group made their way back for hot showers in a relaxed and very chatty mood.
After a presentation of certificates and a group photo the coach arrived and it was time to leave. But from the smiling faces and newfound friends it was clearly a lot of fun for everyone involved.
A big thank you to the expert and friendly team at Sailability for making the day possible.
