Jake Ward – 1st Prize GCSE level

The local Final of this well supported competition was held at Sponne School on Wednesday 29th April.

The finished items and the accompanying written work of 5 GCSE Students and 6 “A” Level students were evaluated by 3 Judges, all of whom had many years of practical design experience behind them.

After long deliberations it was decided that the winning GCSE Student should be Jake Ward with his Dog Food Dispenser and the winning “A” Level Student should be Daniel O’Beirne with his Cycle Storage Unit.

All of the judges were very impressed with the amount of effort all of the Students had shown in the research of their chosen product, the “trial & error” approach they had taken to arrive at their finished item and the high standard of the finished article.

The Students were interviewed separately and the complexity and ingenuity of the winning items were made obvious and enabled the Judges to make unanimous decisions.

All of the Students received Certificates of Achievement and the Winners each received cash prizes and entry to the next level of the Competition.

The winners of the two sections will go forward to the District Finals on Saturday 20th June in Leicester, where they will be competing against Students from all over Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and parts of Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

We wish them every success at the District Final.
